Construction worker killed at Brisbane University

Monday, October 31, 2011

A construction worker has died in an accident at a University of Queensland building project in Brisbane.

Emergency crews were called to the university in St Lucia in Brisbane's inner west at 9:50am (AEST).

Police say machinery that supports the pouring of concrete collapsed at a construction site, causing the death of one of the workers.

Police have cordoned off the area and are expected to hand over the investigation to Workplace Health and Safety.

The man's work colleagues are gathered outside the building and a representative from the CFMEU has arrived at the site.

Classes at the university are continuing as normal.
